ARTx 2025
Art + Ideas Experience
ARTx is an annual, accessible community opportunity to engage with the arts in an immersive and interactive way.
In 2025, we’re excited to offer multiple opportunities throughout the year across a diverse range of venues with community engagement at the center. The call to participate is open now! There are four categories available for funding in 2025:
-
ARTx @ ArtWalk
Artists are invited to submit an original idea for a creative activation at a 2025 ArtWalk event. Dates are flexible and may occur over multiple ArtWalk events, or at just one, depending on the proposed project. Activations may include performances, installations, or artistic experiences. Engagements are encouraged to be interactive, engaging, and inspiring. Projects must be acceptable for all ages, take place in the Downtown ArtWalk footprint. Activations must be temporary, lasting only for the duration of ArtWalk, and returning site to original condition. Please include in your proposal a suggestion for a connection or satellite venue, host, or opportunity. This should be representative of your project, or a component of it, that can be exhibited or presented concurrently at another venue.
-
ARTx @ The Arb
This unique opportunity invites 2-3 artists to engage with The Arboretum at Flagstaff to bring bright, engaging imagery to an existing structural element on the grounds. Once used for interpretive signage, 6 panels (2 groups of 3 panels) are available for artists to tell the story of native plants and ecology of the Colorado Plateau.
2 two-dimensional artists or collectives will be selected to create imagery on 3 of the panels, with the optional addition of 1 three-dimensional artist to create a sculptural component between the 2 groups of panels. Applicants should include examples of proposed imagery and description of medium and method, for example: enamel paint, welded sculptural relief, suspended elements, or other appropriate application that withstands weather and wear. 1 piece of steel sheet metal will be provided by Creative Flagstaff for each panel; approximate dimensions are 76″ x 60″. The installation must remain in place for the 2025 season April 30 – October 26, 2025.
This project also includes an interpretive panel on the back of each art piece to include an artist statement and connection to the theme of ecology, conservation of native plants, the Colorado Plateau and/or climate in the region. Approximate dimensions for the educational component are 37″ x 60″ per panel.
Please include in your proposal a suggestion for a connection or satellite venue, host, or opportunity. This should be representative of your project, or a component of it, that can be exhibited or presented concurrently at another venue.
-
ARTx @ Coconino Center for the Arts
Coconino Center for the Arts (CCA) hosted many ARTx projects in 2024, and we are looking to serve as a host again in 2025 on CCA’s scenic exterior campus. Elements may include sculpture, installation, performance, and other innovative formats.
Artists are encouraged to consider how their work engages with the outdoor space and complements the natural and cultural surroundings. This venue is time-based and should include the proposed duration for a project to remain accessible and durable, or for performances, the frequency and schedule of showings. Sculptural elements will require site manager structural approval prior to implementation. Projects are encouraged to align with themes from CCA’s upcoming exhibitions.
Please include in your proposal a suggestion for a connection or satellite venue, host, or opportunity. This should be representative of your project, or a component of it, that can be exhibited or presented concurrently at another venue.

ARTx @ Free Range
In 2025, we continue to invite artists and collectives to apply for grant funding for projects that may not fit within the scope of the prior three opportunities by proposing their own primary location and satellite venue. This open call welcomes innovative, interactive, and engaging proposals that reflect timely themes or explore new artistic approaches while accessibly connecting with audiences.
Applicants must identify their own venue, specify the time and date of their exhibition or performance, and take responsibility for all logistical coordination, including securing necessary permissions and support.
Please include in your proposal a suggestion for a connection or satellite venue, host, or opportunity. This should be representative of your project, or a component of it, that can be exhibited or presented concurrently at another venue.

WHAT IS ARTX?
ARTx provides a platform for local and national artists, creatives, and thinkers, to share stories of their lived experiences.
In 2025, the structure of ARTx will shift from a consolidated event display to focused opportunities distributed throughout the year so that the community can engage with art more frequently. Each place-based project will offer a satellite or pop-up demonstration in a secondary location, which will connect the main project with a different part of the community, increasing accessibility.
With connectivity as the focus, the objective is to expand the reach of art and creative work throughout the broader community.
We are proud of past ARTx projects and hope they continue to inspire the community to engage and participate in arts + culture.
- grand piano under the full moon at Buffalo Park open space (Rising of the Flower Moon)
- modern rock opera about indigenous black footed ferrets (Pop Goes The Ferret)
- concert of robot percussionists and light show ([un]certainty)
- poetry inspired by art from MNA’s collection, displayed on Mountain Line busses (Poetry Maps)
- a golden cloud of aspen leaves installed in the historic Nackard warehouse, reflecting on fires and flooding in Flagstaff (ENVISION)
The shape, color, and energy of artx is rooted in the submissions for events, activities, and installations each cycle. the inclusion of satellite exhibitions increases accessibility and engagement for all .
ARTx is a program of Creative Flagstaff and serves to fulfill its mission to foster creative opportunity. The structure continues to evolve and be shaped by the participants and audiences in each iteration. ARTx highlights philanthropy and corporate support for arts and culture, gets the community involved, focuses collaborative and interdisciplinary energy, and leaves a lasting and positive impact on the community, year after year.
