Description

What if a book was transformed into a house? Natalie Diaz’s POSTCOLONIAL LOVE POEM is the inspiration for the inaugural “Read the Room” art installation, in which the rooms of an historic Southside home come to embody some of the most provocative poems from the book.

The rooms will respond to “postcoloniality” (family room), “love/desire” (bedroom), “culture” (kitchen), and “displacement” (back porch/sidewalk). Art pieces, staged performances, sound sculptures, and found texts will be distributed throughout the house.

The experience will culminate in a pop-up maker space where visitors are encouraged to create their own works in response to the themes. Those who choose to submit their works will be featured in a community zine project.
